Standard II Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments
Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the Standards•S.
- Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity
- Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress
- Customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources

Reflection
In the standard teachers should design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments for technology-enriched learning environments, different learning activities to meet learners’ different learning styles, and multiple assessments to promote learning.
The
first artifact I selected is piZap tutorial. PiZap is a tool which can help
graphics design. The special function of piZap is the collage function. With
the function, users can design images of their own to well fit to Facebook
covers, envelops, or cards. It is a tool which helps communicate with others via
images. The tutorial was designed in different formats to meet different
learners’ learning styles. There were audio, presentation, animation and video
tutorial for piZap. These tutorials were designed Audacity, Emaze and Empressr,
GoAnimate, and Powtoon. These are all digital age tools. To complete the
project, I need to learn all the tools for design different formats tutorials.
These tools are new of web 2.0 age. With the help of these tools, I can design
diverse formats tutorials to meet different learners’ needs. Students may find
their favorites and follow their own paces to learn by themselves. To complete
the project, I learnt a lot of tools for designing audio, video, presentation,
and animation. I think I can design and develop learning materials of different
formats to promote students’ learning.
The second artifact I selected for the standard is the rubrics for assignments of Kidspiration tutorial. The rubrics were designed by the web site of http://rubistar.4teachers.org/. The web site provides templates for designing rubrics of different subjects. The assignments of Kidspiration tutorial are a paper for concept mapping and learning theory, two examples of maps shown in the tutorial, and the final map designed by learners themselves. The rubrics are the assessments tools for students and teacher. The teacher will show the students the rubrics with the assignments. Students can follow the requirements of the rubrics to complete their assignments. The process is a kind of self-assessment. Finally, the teacher can assess the students’ achievements according to the rubrics. The artifact meets the standard of providing assessments with technology supported. When I firstly knew the tool, I just thought it was a good tool. However, when I designed the project of Kidspiration tutorial, I needed to design assessments for so many assignments. I thought I could apply what I learnt in the design of the assessments.
The third artifact I selected is the paper of Factors of Multimedia Learning. There are many studies to discuss that multimedia materials or environment can or cannot promote learning, depending on how it used. There are many principles we can follow due to the fruits of these studies. The paper is to summarize the factors of promoting learners’ learning when the multimedia learning materials are applied in instruction or learners are learning in multimedia learning environment. The purpose of the paper is to learn these factors and take advantage of them to promote learning when applying multimedia materials or environments. The artifact is an example of summary of digital learning experiences to promote student learning and creativity. When I wrote the paper, I needed to read many other papers to find evidences to support my viewpoints. I accumulated experience for my further design of multimedia learning.
Future learning goals
With the process
of completion of the artifacts, I accumulated digital age learning experiences
and assessment with many tools. For my future instruction, I will learn more
tools for designing technology-enriched learning environments and customized
learning activities with different formats of learning materials to promote
learners learning and creativity. Although the technology design may be one
part of the whole instructional design, I will integrate technology into other
steps and apply technology to help design other steps.
